The T-AMp Project. Bi-Amping

After so many years in HiFi world,I will be taking the path to bi-amping. I made such a decision as the project made it 'affordable' and I have a pair of a very good quality speaker cables in hand. BTW, bi-amping is having separate amplifiers to drive (separately), the woofers and tweeters.. Major improvements to the final audio quality.. Let's hope so! Hehe..

Shown here is the back panel of my T-Amp casing, clearly showing the 8 speaker binding posts!

The normal red/black will be configured to drive the woofers, while the green/blue ones will be connected to the tweeters.

The T-Amp Project. New skills.

In the quests of fine tuning the T-Amp, I managed to DIY a toroid inductors to replace the existing inductors.. I use a 'ferrite ring'. The final ultimate inductor would be the air core type which I will be working next. Here's the coil in action!

New amp in the making: TA2024, T-Amp

Pictures updates:

An almost completed D'T-Amp.
Supposed to be bi-amp capable but don't have enough hardwares to install the second board.
Now a 'normal' stereo power amplifier driven by the superb Yamaha 'pre-amp' :D

Enjoy...

New found technology: Tripath T-Amp, TA2024

May be slightly late but I stumbled the above while surfing the trade sections of LYN. Someone wanted to sell a brand new Sonic Impact's T-Amp for roughly RM300 ( I think). Further googling and surfing a Lowyatter selling a T-Amp boardfor a mere RM55.. I ordered two..

Currently in the upgrade/mod/burn in session.. The recommended 100 hrs is a long way to go...

Will update this with some pix soon...

Whaddaya know!

It has been a while.. ;)
Just wanna brag about my phono cartridge!
I bought it, the Ortofon OM10 Super based on the seller recommendation, as a replacement for my AT30e. It costs me about GBP30 5-6 years ago.(I was in London at that time ;) )
Today accidentally I found a review on that particular cartridge! And guess what, the reviewer is also using the same turntable as mine! What are the chances? :D

This is the link if you wanna read:

http://www99.epinions.com/content_211255201412

In summary:
Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0
Pros: Superb performance in almost any tonearm! Easy to see bullet type body/stylus! Best separation!

Great investment that one!

TT upgrade update

Whew! Finally, I'd consider it completed! Only cosmetic touch up to be done.
Basically the plinth has been reinforced, the OEM signal cable has been replaced with a pair of output RCA sockets for which I can properly use an 'audio quality' RCA cable to connect to the amp(phono) input.
Whats left? Isolation 'feet' to be installed. Couldn't decide to use rubber or metallic cone.. will have to do some serious auditioning at night if there would be any differences at all!
Last night initial listening I do detect a more solid imaging to the sound stage.. how much does this 'mod' cost me? Few ringgit! The only costly thing that I bought to complete the work is a portable/battery operated multispeed drill..
Now that my TT is given a new 'life' I am itching to build a phono(RIAA) preamp. A module that would complement the D'Bomb or the Det'nator...
Sorry folks no pics at this point of time, will update later. Now can concentrate on the Det'nator (GBY's) and D'Phone (MDZ's) hehehe..
Have a great weekend guys! I know I would.. ;)

Minor Project -TT upgrade update..

Have almost completed the plinth 'cosmetic job' after acquiring a specialised glue made for jointing wood. Found out the SELLEY's one is 50% much more expensive that another brand that I got (from Jalan Pasar). No nails/screw was required. After the 'glue' cured, it was as solid as nailed job!

One last bit to do is to replace the output cable. Plan to install a set of RCA sockets so that I can use an audio grade RCA signal cable to feed a good 'phono preamp"<--- this one coming up next, after finishing/completing a long queue of other stuffs to complete. One of them is GBY's Det'nator, then MDZ's jurassic phone. Hahahaha.

Next update with pictures....

Minor Project - My TT 'upgrade'..

Have been putting this for quite a while but finally have a little 'bit' time to do the above.
Need to change the signal cable, this will definitely improve the sound as the built-in cable have aged.. and need to reinforced the plinth too, and to isolate the whole TT from external sound/vibrations...

More of this later... click the photolink for more pics...

An audio project?

Just undertook, well kinda agree to help MDZ to restore an antique phone. Restore as in making it 'useable' again...
Not much of a problem as telephone apparatus is purely 'electrical' stuffs, especially really old phone.. hahaha..
Plan A would be trying to make it work with existing 'electronics'.. which is just a handful of wires and coils, solenoids(for the bell ringer) if these fails, chances are they would considering the age.. will have to go with plan B..
Old antique phone on the outside, latest technology on the inside.. hehe. Will try to make or use the original bell ringer.. would be weird an antique phone with an electronic ringer..

Maybe JTA(JazzTech Audio) should venture into audio stuffs restoration works.. question is, ada demand ka? or worth the effort and/or returns?

update-preamp

Finally, I have finished the earlier mentioned pre-amp. More like

a prototype here. Built a casing for it from what I had in the 'store'..

Will need to improve on this. It's a passive preamp anyway ;)

updates!

Whaddaya know! The repair on the MA R252 turned out fine!

no more rubbing/chafing noises!

Have been playing/experimenting with some simple

pre-amp circuits.. finally close to midnite, eureka! got the

circuit right! Playing with D'Bomb right now.. may need some

tweaking tomorrow.. the basis for D'Bomb II and GainClone..

Take a look..

LM3886-Gainclone Amp

I have read this for quite awhile and curious about it's sonic performance. Some of the makers have but great praise for it's sonic performance against it's costs... I'm sold! I gotta try it myself!
You can google for gainclone and read it for yourself! There's even a gainclone webring.

Will be busy with this for awhile.. hehehe..

I am planning to build my gain clone into this casing.. which was bought by a friend in Bangkok, an over kill but what the heck!

This is pending it's sonic evaluation against TheBomb, BombII and my reference Technics SU-A900 MK2 integrated amp...

Oops!, have to build the BombII first! Damn, so many things to do, not enough time ler..

What you think? ;)

2008 Update! In April! Hehe

Whoa 4 months have passed and this is the first

update this year! Ah well.. better late than never, right?

OK.

The Det'nator still with my 'friend' for perspex panel manufacturing and mounting hole drilling. Why so long? He's doing it in his own time, beside his hectic day schedules... so don't wanna push him. Will call him tonite, to check on the progress or (non-progress :P) My apologies to 'gby'( ze customer)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just got back from Jalan Pasar..
bought some stuffs for my GainClone Amp and
'pre-amp' parts for the Det'nator and the GC.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Also had to 'repair' my Monitor Audio R252
as there is some 'rubbing noises' which I found
that the voice coil is chafing against the magnet.BTW, this is unfinished work, ok!
